An anti-government rally against the Bank Century bailout by around 100 students from Hasanuddin University in front of their campus in Makassar, South Sulawesi turned ugly Wednesday afternoon.
The students pelted stones at police officers and vandalized passing state-owned vehicles, which were marked by red license plates, on Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan.
Protesters also tore down advertisements and traffic signs and blocked the road using pieces of wood and bamboo.
A number of rallies were still going on at several locations across Makassar, including at the Regional Legislative Council building.
